Whitko golf edged by West Noble, Manchester
The Whitko girls’ golf team was on the road Tuesday night for a three-way golf match at South Shore Golf Course in Syracuse.
The Lady Wildcats finished third on the night by two strokes falling to West Noble 226-228. Manchester won the night with a score of 206.
Whitko scores included: Taylor Snavley 45, Chloe Nestel 54, Taylor Pottenger 60, Emily Weigold 70, Hannah Himes 69.
City struggles at the Hawk, falls to East Noble 169-217
The Columbia City girls’ golf team had a tough task to take on Tuesday night in a road trip to East Noble.
Besides taking on a state ranked Lady Knights team, the Lady Eagles played the tough course of Noble Hawk Golf Links.
After nine holes, East Noble came in with two scores at 40 or below and finished with a 169-217 win over Columbia City (3-7, 1-5 NHC).
The Lady Eagles scores included: Rachel Hazelet 49, Olivia Western 51, Lauren Holloway 58, McKenzie Smith 59, Megan Yoder 63.
Brittany Wyatt beat out teammate Katie Sharp for medalist of the match with a 39 for East Noble.
The Knights also won the junior varsity match 225-234.
Columbia City JV scores included: Jackie Leeuw 55, Deanna Beckner 56, Allison Yoder 61, Jessica Klemm 62, Jacquiline Bullard 65, Sarah Fahl 66.
Wildcat tennis denied first win against Wawasee
The Whitko boys’ tennis team was in search of its first win of the season Tuesday night at Wawasee.
The Wildcats didn’t find it against the Warriors falling 5-0.
In singles: Nathan Brady (WA) beat Alex Winger (WH), 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles; Garly Windle (WA) defeated Tyler Baugher (WH), 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2; Westin Becker (WA) topped Nathan Sherrard (WH), 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 position.
The doubles matches followed: Nick Price and Derek Zurcher (WA) defeated Tom Danner and Seth Patrick (WH), 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1; Jeff Miller and Tyler Kissinger (WA) defeated Tyler Pottenger and Avery Robbins (WH), 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2.
The junior varsity match went to Wawasee 4-0.
No. 1 singles: Kyler Love (WA) defeats Blake Castle (WH), 8-1; No. 1 doubles: Cole Love and Isaac Rigdon (WA) defeat Urian Bailey and Blake Castle (WH), 8-0; No. 2 doubles: Dyan Dunathin and Dylan Houser (WA) defeat Kody Brandenburg and Jacob Silveus (WH), 8-0.
Whitko spiked by Warsaw
The Whitko volleyball team fell in a tough match at Warsaw Tuesday night 7-25, 9-25, 23-25.
Karissa Olinske led the Lady ’Cats in digs with eight while also leading the way from the service line with five points and two aces.
Senior Rachelle Kessie posted five digs, three serving points and two kills on the night. Audra Day tied Kessie for most kills by Whitko with two.
Meghan Peters held down setter for the Lady Wildcats getting three assists.
The junior varsity also fell to Warsaw 18-25, 11-25. Shelby Smiley had four service points while Amanda Shepherd had three points and one ace.
