Wesley L. Smith, 25, a Columbia City native, died Thursday, March 24, 2011.
He was born Nov. 27, 1985 in Fort Wayne, a son of Duane A. and Diana E. (Clark) Smith. His formative years were spent in rural Columbia City. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 2004.
He joined the United States Army where he served in Iraq, Indianapolis and most recently El Paso, Texas.
On Feb. 26, 2010 he was united in marriage to Caroline M. Cripe.
In January, he began his employment at Micropulse.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Caroline; his parents, Duane and Diana Smith of Columbia City; his in-laws, Les and Jane Cripe of South Whitley; six siblings, Rita Shank of Indianapolis, Kevin Smith of Michigan, Sara Sawyer of Columbia City, Elizabeth Smukal of Michigan, Janette Bachelder of Columbia City and Craig Smith of Columbia City; a brother-in-law, Todd Cripe of Fort Hood, Texas; and grandmother, Maxine Overholser of Columbia City.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
