COLUMBIA CITY — According to the Indiana State Board of Health, seven pools of water have tested positive for the West Nile Virus in Whitley County.
Environmental Health Specialist Scott Wagner said the pools were located at Columbia City’s Waste Water Treatment Plant.
Tests were conducted July 26 and the State Board of Health made the confirmation official Friday.
“It’s a good reminder for people to take care of standing water on their property,” Wagner said. “Any faulty septic systems should be dealt with as well.”
At present, no one in the county has been infected by the virus, but knowing the risk exists is reason for residents to be aware.
