Whitko baseball falls to Wabash, 6-1

WABASH — Whitko’s baseball team traveled to Three Rivers Conference foe Wabash on Wednesday night and lost, 6-1.

The Apaches scored the first run of the game in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.

The score held until the fifth frame, when Whitko’s Colin Nicodemus reached home plate on a single by his cousin, Ethan Nicodemus.

Wabash retaliated with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the 6-1 win.

Whitko’s Wes Gensch pitched the first five innings with three strike-outs. He gave up seven hits and six runs. Wyatt Wolf came in as relief, adding two strike-outs and giving up one hit in one inning.

Ethan Nicodemus went 2-for-4 from the plate with an RBI and a stolen base.

The Wildcats are now 17-7 (4-3 TRC). Wabash is 5-2 in the conference.
Whitko’s next game is tonight at Woodlan. The Wildcats are slated to play Norwell next Friday in the first round of sectionals at Bellmont at 7:30 p.m.
