PIERCETON — Whitko Community School Corporation continues to move forward on its plans to renovate South Whitley Elementary School and construct a new Pierceton Elementary School.
At a recent meeting of the corporation’s Board of Trustees, Superintendent Steve Clason gave an update on the timeline in which work will commence during the following months.
“We are definitely in the design phase,” Clason said. “We are working on obtaining feedback from community members as well as faculty.”
A group of architects met with staff at both South Whitley and Pierceton Elementary Schools to get input from teachers and administrators.
“From our discussions with the folks at the elementary schools, we can tweak the design to work better with the programming we want to see in the buildings,” Clason said. “There will continue to be more design talks.”
Plans are in place for soil and core samples to be taken from the proposed site at Pierceton Elementary School.
Currently, the board is considering rebuilding in front of the existing school, closer to Ind. 13.
