SOUTH WHITLEY — After playing out-of-conference competition throughout August, Whitko’s volleyball squad finally got a taste of Three Rivers Conference play when North Miami came calling Thursday evening.
Whitko ignited the opening play with a 5-0 lead in game one, and it appeared they would be in the drivers seat.
The Lady ’Cats managed to win game one, 25-17, but lost their momentum after a disappointing loss in game two and did not recover.
The Warriors swept the next three games, 25-23, 25-21 and 25-19.
In the second contest, Whitko built its advantage to 10-6, but fell behind 13-12, and the game became a nail biter to the end.
Knotted at 16 apiece, the score was tied on four occasions with the last coming at 22-22.
The Lady ’Cats gained a one-point advantage at 23-22, but North Miami scored the final three points for the win.
“Once we lost the second game, we lost our confidence,” said Whitko Head Coach Brandy Smith. “We were not as aggressive as we were in game one when our ball handling was much better.”
