SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Whitkoâ€™s boys basketball team defeated Wayne in South Whitley Friday night, 65-63.
Logan Irwin scored 36 points for the Wildcats, adding to his already 2,000 plus career points.
Irwin started the game off with Whitkoâ€™s first seven points to take the Wildcatsâ€™ first lead, 7-5, with 5:12 left in the first quarter. Jordan Sims hit one of his two 3-pointers with three minutes left in the quarter and Alex Stoddard chipped in seven in the stanza.
There were six lead changes in the last five minutes of the first period, putting the score at 19-18 in favor of Whitko at the beginning of the second quarter. The â€™Cats had a 42-38 lead at halftime.
Wayne outscored Whitko in the third quarter by two points to cut the lead in half, 50-48, going into the last quarter. Both teams scored 15 points in the fourth period and the Wildcats held on for the 65-63 win.
Irwin led with 36 points follwed by 15 from Stoddard, eight by Sims and two each from Bennett, Kolton Krull and Gabe Powell.
