SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s girls tennis team had two Three Rivers Conference matches this week and split the pair.
Monday, the Lady Wildcats defeated visiting Southwood, 3-2. At No. 1 singles, Laura Hippensteel pulled out a tight three-set win over Southwood’s Sarah Peters in a match that was more than two hours.
At No. 2 singles, Aressa Tackwell of Whitko beat Southwood’s Emma Flynn 6-0, 6-1.
The other Lady Wildcat win was at No. 1 doubles, where Abby Marshall and Laura Alfieri won 6-1, 6-1. Whitko’s Candice Swick lost at No. 3 singles in two sets and the doubles pair of Erin Murphy and Mikayla Findley lost straight sets as well for the Lady Wildcats.
Whitko Tennis Coach Michael Blevins was happy with the win, as at that time it moved the team at .500 for the year and .500 in the conference.
He added that, as of Monday, the team has more wins than all of last year.
Tuesday, Whitko lost to Manchester by a score of 3-2.
Wins came by doubles for the Lady Wildcats, as the pairs of Hippensteel and Tackwell, as well as the duo of Marshall and Alfieri were winners in straight sets.
In singles action, Murphy, Findley and Swick all lost to their Manchester foes in straight sets.
The Lady Wildcats next play tonight against Northfield.View more articles in:
