SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko stand-out point guard Logan Irwin is going Division I.
Irwin signed with Stetson University Wednesday, a NCAA Division I school in DeLand, Fla.
Though Florida may be unfamiliar territory for Irwin, the head coach isn’t.
With Irwin’s father, Rob, as Head Coach at Whitko, Logan has had the opportunity to get to know several basketball coaches, including former assistant coach at Belmont (University) Head Coach Casey Alexander
“I knew that my relationship with Coach Alexander was the best out of all the schools I’ve looked at,” Irwin said.
Alexander is taking on his first year at Stetson this season, and Irwin has committed to his team next season.
Irwin said he has had interest from several colleges, including: Belmont, Ball State, Evansville and Northwood (Michigan).
“I’ve played for my dad all my life, it’s important to me to have a good coaching staff,” Irwin said.
Irwin averaged 25.1 points, 5.8 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game as a junior.
He is also Whitko’s all-time leading scorer with 1,556 points.
