MARION — The day was full of ranked teams and quality runners at the Marion Invitational Saturday.
Among them were four in the boys’ race taking the top four spots. No. 16 Fort Wayne Snider edged No. 5 Noblesville 80-86.
Whitko had the best day for Whitley County taking eighth overall behind the top 10 finish of senior Brian Menzie.
Menzie placed eighth out of 198 runners in the field with his time of 16:23.
Other Whitko boys finishers: Jude Stieglitz 51st, Brodie Wilson 62nd, Dallas Asher 63rd, Trapper Mize 103rd, Trent Walther 114th, Chas Busz 171st.
Columbia City finished 11 overall on the boys side of things. The Eagles were led by freshman Evan Harney’s 41st-place time of 17:14.
Harney beat out teammate Brendon Zoltek by one second. Zoltek placed 42nd giving Columbia City the second of its four runners in the top 100.
Other finishers included: Adam Bernhard 79th, Trevor Maggart 97th, David Potter 109th, Connor Slavicek 165th, Ian Rooda 188th.
The No. 15 Lady Eagles was one of three top 15 ranked teams in the girls race. No. 2 Noblesville won the day over No. 8 Huntington North 45-66.
Columbia City finished sixth at 210.
Senior Renee Menzie was City’s lone runner in the top 20 taking sixth-place at 19:28.
Other Lady Eagle finishers were: Brooke Werstler 25th, Carlee Hearld 47th, Samantha Engle 65th, Erin Knepple 67th, Samantha Roush 68th, Laken Lefever 99th.
The Whitko girls finished 23rd as a team.
Lady Wildcat finishers followed: Aubrey Smith 64th, Shandi Oswald 121st, Christena Hoopingarner 141st, Holly Frantz 145th, Riley Snep 148th, Becca Thomson 161st, Jocelyn Krull 167th.
