SOUTH WHITLEY — A new trail is soon to take shape in South Whitley, thanks to Whitley On The Move, a grassroots initiative to improve the town.

Overseeing the organization is Julia Robinson of South Whitley. However, numerous town citizens have joined forces to form several committees focused on targeting specific areas of improvement.

One of those areas is developing recreational opportunities.

When the trail is completed, it will cover more than two miles and will stretch as far east as Reed Street and Jefferson Street to the west of town.

Going south, the trail will reach Poplar Street and Broad Street to the north. One bonus to the trail system is its ability to allow for walkers, joggers and bicyclists to travel through town with minimal time spent on Ind. 5 or Ind. 205.

“This trail encourages exercise and activity,” Robinson said. “We want to see children and families getting out on the trail to get some good exercise.”

For the town of South Whitley, the trail brings a couple of added bonuses. Signs were made and ready to be installed along the trail path. These were bought by WOTM through a grant made possible by the Whitley County Community Foundation.
