Wildcats downed by Wawasee, 20-7

August 18, 2012

Whitko’s Alex Smith leaps to snatch the Wildcats’ lone first-half reception out of the air Friday night against Wawasee. Whitko was defeated 20-7.

SOUTH WHITLEY — First-game miscues led Whitko to a season-opening loss to Wawasee Friday night in South Whitley.

Despite possessing the ball twice as long as the Warriors in the first half, turnovers and penalties kept the Wildcats from the end zone, while Wawasee pulled out to a 14-0 halftime lead.

“It was just the little things,” Whitko Head Coach Wayne Swender said. “We counted nine little things in the first half that didn’t go our way. We were moving the ball really well in the first half and all-in-all we were happy defensively.”

Whitko hosts Columbia City next Friday.
