William Harrison, 92

William Nathan Harrison, 92, of Fort Wayne, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Renaissance Village, Fort Wayne. Born March 31, 1921, in Aboite Township, Allen County, he was the son of William Roy and Ethel N. (Smith) Harrison.
He grew up in Aboite Township, Allen County, and Jefferson Township, Whitley County. After graduating from Jefferson Center High School with the Class of 1940, he served in the U.S. Army. On April 25, 1942, he married Betty Louise Trimmer in Jefferson Township. He was employed with General Electric, Fort Wayne, for 44.5 years, retiring on Feb. 27, 1986. He was a lifetime member of Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 71 years, Betty Louise Harrison of Fort Wayne; son, William “Ed” Edward Harrison of Goshen; two daughters, Susan Shaffmaster of Fort Wayne and Jane Graham of Spokane, Wash.; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James D. Harrison; sisters, Virginia Faye DeMoney and LaVera Harshbarger; granddaughter, Kelly Katherine Graham and son-in-law, Richard Shaffmaster.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City. Funeral service will be at Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church Monday at 2 p.m. with one hour of calling prior to service with Reverend Leonard King officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Chapel (Sand Bank) Cemetery with graveside military rites presented by the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard. Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Harrison to the Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church. Visit to send family condolences or sign the online guest register book.
