William Schnepp, 82

William H. Schnepp, 82, of Columbia City, passed away at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at his home. Born March 6, 1930, in Monroeville, he was the son of Henry and Evah (Rich) Schnepp.
He graduated from Roanoke High School with the class of 1948. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army where he served with the Military Police in Korea.
On June 9, 1953, he married Elizabeth R. Battershell in Roanoke. A farmer in Allen and Huntington counties, he was employed by International Harvester as an assembly worker for 31 years.
After his retirement from International Harvester, he worked as a custodian at Columbia City High School and tutored students from Whitley County Consolidated Schools including Coesse Elementary School and Indian Springs Middle School.
He attended Collamer Church of God, South Whitley.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth R. Schnepp of Columbia City; son, James (Gloria) Schnepp of Fort Wayne; daughters, Cindy (Denny) Platt of Columbia City, Carol (Jeff) Breeding of Huntington and Jenny (Brad) Hartman of Columbia City; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, David (Margaret) Schnepp of Roanoke; sister, Cheryl (Roger) Tackett of Huntington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Ellen Pinkerton and Leona Pelz and great-grandson, Brayden Silvestre.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. The burial will follow at South Park Cemetery, Columbia City.
Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Schnepp to the donor’s choice of charity. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
