COLUMBIA CITY — Having called a special meeting slated for tonight, the Whitley County Plan Commission will once again be discussing the hot-topic issue of amending a zoning ordinance to account for wind turbines.
In February, the commission took an impromptu vote — one which did not count or would have even decided anything — to gauge where the commission stood on the drafted ordinance in front of them. Last month, a mandatory public hearing was held to allow for opinions from all sides to be shared.
Everyone from residents, non-residents, applicants, non-applicants, company spokesmen and attorneys got their say at the meeting which lasted almost eight hours.
While originally planning an official vote, the commission decided to curb the vote having heard so much new information. Now, having heard all the voices, it is up to the commission to discuss, potentially amend, and vote on the ordinance change.
Prior to any vote, the commission will hold discussions at tonight’s meetings to address any concerns or questions the commission may have based on the last meeting.
