COLUMBIA CITY — When a large preschool program gave notice of its sudden plans to close, Whitley County’s YMCA stepped in to fill the need.
After almost two years of offering an early learning program, the YMCA has a growing need for space and accommodations.
A $2.25 million expansion to the YMCA is set for completion in December that will house the department and relocate the preschool program from New Hope Wesleyan Church, west of Columbia City.
“We are grateful to have had the church and we appreciate their cooperation,” said Erica Miller, the YMCA’s executive director. “It was always our intention to make the church a temporary spot. We knew we would have to come up with a long-term plan.
“Now, families will have one location that will serve the needs of all ages.”
The Armstrong Early Learning Center is named after Don Armstrong and his family.
