YMCA EXPANSION: Official ceremony Friday

June 19, 2014

Whitley County’s YMCA is in the process of expanding its facility to include a preschool learning center. An official groundbreaking ceremony is slated for Friday at 10 a.m.

COLUMBIA CITY — Although work is well underway at the Whitley County Family YMCA, Columbia City, an official groundbreaking ceremony will be held Friday at 10 a.m.

Work started two weeks ago on the Armstrong Early Learning Center, which will house an education service for preschoolers.

The construction project will include a gymnasium and classrooms for the preschool program.

Some closures have had to take place to allow for mechanicals to be relocated, but the YMCA remains open.

The parking lot is somewhat restricted throughout the project, as some of the construction equipment has taken several parking spaces.

However, work is estimated to be completed by the middle of October.
