COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City Common Council approved a request for an amendment to the Zoning Ordinance on second reading at its meeting Tuesday.
“As you remember, this is in regard to SDS Communications out on West Lincolnway, changing it from an Ag setting from a house to a business,” said Mayor Ryan Daniel to the council.
David Sewell, executive director of the Joint Planning and Building Department, was present, representing the Columbia City Plan Commission with the request.
He said the request would change zoning for a specific area from the A-1, Agricultural, zoning district to the GB, General Business, zoning district.
The area discussed is slightly less than 1.5 acres, located on the north side of West Lincolnway, one=eighth mile west of CR 150 W. in Columbia City.
All adjoining property owners were notified and Sewell said a public hearing was held May 7 on the proposed amendment by the Plan Commission.
Sewell said no opposition has been expressed from the public.
In the council’s last meeting, Nicole Penrod asked Sewell what kind of business this would be, and he said it was a communication/phone service office.
With no opposition toward the request, the motion was made to approve the changes on second reading.
