Ramona Lynn (Gradeless) Wood lost her battle with cancer Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at the age of 62. She was born in Moses Lake, Wash., Sept. 8, 1952.
She graduated from Columbia City High School in 1970. Lynn worked for Verizon, formerly GTE, for 25 years before retiring. She moved to Fort Wayne in 1992.
She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Russell Gradeless, Sr.; step-father Robert Cooper; and brothers, Roger and Larry Cooper.

Barbara Sue Hoke, 60

Barbara Sue Hoke, 60, of Columbia City, passed away at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015 at her home. Born May 28, 1954 in Goshen, she was the daughter of Melvin G. and Joann A. (Detwiler) Huber.
After graduating from Goshen High School with the Class of 1972, Barbara attended Ball State University.
On May 28, 1977, she married Robert Hoke in Goshen. They moved to Columbia City from Goshen in 1986. She worked at Coesse Elementary for 10 years, Kroger Deli and Rest Care, assisting clients before retiring in 2002.

Jean Jagger, 62, of Columbia City, passed away at 2:50 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born Jan. 20, 1953 in Whitley County, she was the daughter of Robert E. and Riola F. (Taylor) VanWey.
Jean graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1971 and graduated from Four Winds Academy with the Class of 1972. She had been a hairstylist since graduating from Four Winds and currently was at Shear Envy. Jean enjoyed going out with friends, playing cards and golfing.

Norma M. Schroeder, 85

Norma M. Schroeder, 85, of Columbia City, died at 5:39 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015 at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne where she had been admitted Monday.
She was born Sept. 15, 1929 in Whitley County, a daughter of Forest W. and Alice Catherine (Londt) Fowler. A lifelong Whitley County resident, she graduated from Jefferson Center High School and received her nurses training at St. Joe Hospital.

Bertha Haywood, 84

Bertha (Richardson) Haywood, 84, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015 at 1:52 a.m. in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. She was born Aug. 27, 1930 in London, Ohio, the sixth child of Elza and Lillie (Whitaker) Richardson.
On Sept. 28, 1947 she was united in marriage to Calvin Haywood, the son of Jobe and Grace Haywood, of Prestonsburg, Ky. Calvin preceded Bertha June 24, 1997 after serving as a Baptist Deacon for over 20 years.

Robert A. Zabel, age 86, of Sturgis, Mich. passed away early Wednesday morning Jan. 21, 2015 at Matthew 7:7 Adult Foster Care Home in White Pigeon.
He was born April 27, 1928 in Sturgis, son of the late Herman and Inez (Reamer) Zabel.
Bob was a lifelong Sturgis resident and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1945.
On June 30, 1952 he married the love of his life, Norma Englarth, in Sturgis. She died Nov. 18, 2014.

Robert L. “Bud” Rousseau, 85, of Wolf Lake, died at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
He was born June 4, 1929 in Fort Wayne, Indiana a son of Robert D. and Florence Vivian (Caywood) Rousseau. He began his schooling in Fort Wayne and completed his education at New Haven High School.
On May 17, 1951 he enlisted in the United States Army National Guard. He was honorably discharged May 16, 1954.

Darlene K. Peppler, 69, of Columbia City, Ind., passed away at 12:40 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2015 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Born September 24, 1945 in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of William G. and DeLaures B. (Ables) Peppler.
Darlene graduated from Arcola High School in 1964 and Ball State University in 1968. For over 20 years, she had been a teacher and girls athletic coach at Muncie Central High School in Muncie.

Richard L. “Dick” Miller, 79, of rural Columbia City, died at 4:40 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2015 at Miller’s Merry Manor at Oak Pointe.
He was born November 14, 1935 in Huntington County, Indiana a son of Herbert O. and Thyra M. (Williams) Miller. His formative years were spent in Washington Township, Whitley County. He graduated from Washington Center High School.
On March 3, 1958 he enlisted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged December 4, 1959.
