NORTH MANCHESTER — A 9-run onslaught by the Eagle batters in the first two innings was enough to give Columbia City’s baseball team an 11-6 victory in a sloppy game against the hosting Squires of Manchester Monday night.
Senior catcher Landon Rehrer led the way offensively for Columbia City, with two runs scored, an RBI, a walk and a double while going 2-for-4 at the plate.
The Eagles scored two runs in the top of the first inning and seven in the second to take a commanding 9-0 lead in the middle of the second frame.
Columbia City capitalized on Manchester defensive miscues in those two innings. Only two of the Eagles’ early nine runs were earned by Squire pitchers, due to several fielding errors.
Columbia City flirted with 10-running Manchester, but defensive errors by the Eagles kept the Squires in the game.
