COLUMBIA CITY — A nature preserve north of Columbia City may be off the beaten path to the public, but those who have been there know it’s worth the trip.
The Evelyn and Wendell Dygert Nature Preserve has been open to the public since 2001. It is located in Thorncreek Township, about four miles north of Columbia City on County Road 50 West.
Clay Geiger, a long-time resident of Thorncreek, said he enjoys going to the preserve many times a year — particularly right now.
“It’s great for wildflowers, and right now it’s at the peak,” he said.
