CHURUBUSCO — For 64 years, the town of Churubusco has reserved time during the summer to celebrate Oscar, “the beast of ‘Busco.”
“Oscar was the Godzilla of turtles,” wrote Gary Kauffman in his account of Oscar, a legendary large-scale amphibian (See Turtle Days publication inserted in today’s edition of The Post & Mail).
Although the debate is still alive over the reality of Oscar’s existence, that has not stopped Churubusco from reveling in the spirit of the beast with a summer festival.
“Oscar’s Blast from the Past,” is the theme for this year’s festival. The four-day event will feature carnival rides, live music and entertainment as well as turtle races and a parade.
To drive home the theme of the festival, Tim “Papa” Holmes will serve as the 2013 grand marshal for the parade Saturday at 6 p.m.
