COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County’s Sheriff’s Department recently told the Whitley County Council it might return to its old radio system.
Currently on the 800 mHz system (digital), Sheriff Mark Hodges said busy signals and other difficulties might prompt his department to return to the VHF (analog) radio system.
Meanwhile, Columbia City Mayor Ryan Daniel said the city has not had problems with busy signals, and it is because of what he called a wise investment.
“The city decided a couple of years ago to purchase dual-band radios,” he said. “They have an 800 and VHF band and broadcast from dispatch dually.”
Hodges said his department experienced difficulty with busy signals, likely due to state police and others using the same lines.
Daniel said the city has not had any issues, because of the radios.
