COLUMBIA CITY — Seven years ago today, Tammy Gross, a Whitley County native, heard the words, “you have breast cancer.”
With cancer fought and beaten, Gross now celebrates her recovery as an advocate for the American Cancer Society and finding a cure for breast cancer.
“I never thought this would be the path I would find myself on,” Gross said. “I am not a public speaker — I am rather shy in front of crowds. However, I find myself in front of more people now more than ever. If it gives me a chance to encourage someone else fighting cancer, then so be it.”
Recently, Gross put aside her fear of public speaking to be the keynote feature for the area’s Making Strides event in Fort Wayne.
At the breakfast, Gross shared her story with an audience of hundreds. The event was designed to launch the breast cancer fundraising walk to be held in Headwaters Park in Fort Wayne, Oct. 12.
