COLUMBIA CITY — “We’ve done a good job of making this a work truck, not a parade truck.” Columbia City Fire Chief Tom LaRue and his crew are finishing up the specs for the department’s new fire truck and are doing what they can to keep the cost down.
“We are improving some of the ways we do things in order to make it more unified for our community,” LaRue told Columbia City’s Common Council Tuesday. “We’re taking cost and benefit into consideration. We don’t have $50,000 lights and gold-plated doors.”
LaRue said the department is looking at its current trucks and figuring out how to make the new one better.
