COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s Board of Works is taking some extra time making a decision about sending an employee for a certification.
Dave Sewell is Whitley County’s executive director for the Planning and Building Department, and there is a $1,500 certification available to him through a consulting firm, High Performance Government.
The firm is seeking all planning and building directors in Northeast Indiana to join forces in creating a more standardized process for permit application, as well as sharing other techniques to make Northeast Indiana a prime location for new business.
“When companies are looking at Northeast Indiana, they are dealing with different requirements for different locations,” Columbia City Mayor Ryan Daniel.
“This could be a way to improve our competitive level against other regions and states. It’s a way to grow as a region and become more standardized and more efficient.”
Because Sewell’s job is a shared position between the city and county, both places would have to agree to split the cost for the certification.
While the County Commissioners signed off on their half of the $3,000 bill, the Board of Works decided to take some more time to research the program.
