WHITLEY COUNTY — With one day until Thanksgiving, the boys basketball teams of Whitley County will tip off their 2013-14 seasons tonight.
Columbia City and Whitko will hold their traditional battle, set for the day before Thanksgiving. Churubusco will host Adams Central.
Last season, Columbia City picked up a 69-26 win against Whitko on its way to a 20-4 campaign.
The last time the Wildcats have gotten a win over the Eagles was in November of 2008, when they pulled out a five-point win against Columbia City.
For both schools, different faces will be on the floor. Whitley County fans will be looking at two new groups of starters for Columbia City and Whitko.
Both squads graduated four starters and are looking for new players to convert junior varsity experience into varsity success this season.
The story is the polar opposite at Churubusco. The Eagles were in the same place in the fall of 2012 as Columbia City and Whitko are this year.
Last season, ’Busco came into the year with five new starters and a squad of no seniors.
The upside to that, though, is that this year, Churubusco returns its entire team from one year ago.
Heading into its first game with Adams Central, the Eagles are hoping to avenge a loss from last season.
The Jets beat the Eagles 51-34 last year on the way to a 13-8 campaign.
This year, ’Busco is much more confident coming into the season with all five starters returning.
