COLUMBIA CITY — Upgrades to the Whitley County Jail continue to be debated by County Commissioners. Although some work has started, the lot of parts needed have not been approved for purchase — a cost that could be in excess of $80,000.
At a previous council meeting, Commissioner Tom Rethlake had shared with county officials that a valve originally bid to cost $1,066 each, might be able to be purchased at a price of $776 from a different company.
However, Rethlake said he would turn the bid over to County Maintenance Supervisor Mark Sturtevant for review and follow up.
Monday, Sturtevant was at the County Commissioners’ meeting to present his recommendation on the work in the jail.
