COLUMBIA CITY — A Fort Wayne man pleaded guilty Monday to burglarizing his mother’s home in Columbia City.
Tyler Green, 30, was accused of breaking into a safe in his mother’s home in November of 2012.
His plea Monday was part of an agreement. Green will be given a 10-year sentence. He will serve eight of those years.
The state also agreed to not veto any modification of Green’s sentence after he has served one fourth of his time.
However, sentence modification would still be decided by Judge James Heuer.
According to case reports. Green visited his mother’s home to ask her for money. She was not home.
While he was waiting, Green told investigators he decided to break into the safe and take the contents.
Green’s mother and brother suspected him, since only the items from the safe were taken, and the safe had a hidden key. Other valuables in the home, including a television and laptop, were not taken.
