COLUMBIA CITY — The arctic weather of January took a slight break to allow Leadership Whitley County Class 13 members to gather for their monthly session at Parkview Whitley Hospital.
Sponsored by J & K Communications, the session focused on public speaking, animal personality styles and an awareness portion of school board roles and responsibilities.
Jill Western, a Whitley County Consolidated School Board of Trustee, and Tanya Young of Smith-Green Community School Corporation, engaged with the class in an open dialogue format regarding the many challenges as well as opportunities facing each of their respective corporations.
One LWC class participant stated "I learned that there is a lot more that goes into being a school board member than most people might think.”
Another class member offered said, "I thought the discussion about the TIF districts was interesting. It has prompted me to try to learn more about it, and what it means for our schools."
