No. ’Busco rallies in fourth to remain perfect

   CULVER — Saturday was the first time all season Churubusco football had experienced it.
   A deficit in the fourth quarter. Having run the board in the first six weeks of the Indiana high school football season, the No. 2 Eagles had its toughest test to date in its only non-conference game of the season.
   ’Busco took trip to Culver Military Academy Saturday for its first meeting with the school. A turnover plagued game saw the Eagles trailing 14-8 at halftime.
   Senior running back Kyle Mathewson rallied the Eagles in the fourth quarter — rushing for 294 yards on the ground for two late touchdowns and a come-from-behind win 24-21.
   Culver lit up the scoreboard in the first quarter on a three-yard plunge into the end zone by running back Turner Morshces.
   Churubusco’s reply came in the second quarter with an 11-yard pass from QB Kyle Monk to fellow senior Kyle Mathewson.
   An 8-6 lead was short lived when Culver’s Tom O’Neil took a 20-yard march in for the first of his two touchdowns on the day.
   After putting the host up 14-8 at the break, O’Neil handed the Eagles their biggest deficit of the season on a 15-yard run that widened the Culver lead to 21-8 in the fourth quarter.
   Putting the ball in the hands of their top rusher, ’Busco went on the rally with Mathweson score with 5:58 remaining to cut the lead down to 21-16 on a 24-yard burst.
   With only 1:35 left on the clock, Mathewson did it again — this time ending his own drive with a five-yard TD run.
   A two-point conversion by Jes Percey from Monk put the ’Busco lead to three.
   Monk had two interceptions on defense to up his career total to 18.
