COLUMBIA CITY — The National Association of Home Builders predicts a 25 percent gain in total new homes in 2014, with a 32 percent pickup in single-family constructions.
Whitley County appears to be following the trend, with a new housing addition, possible expansions to current subdivisions, and several new homes — an increase that began in 2013.
Though 2013’s building permit total of 667 is similar to 2012, Dave Sewell, Whitley County’s executive director of planning and building, said there is a major difference in the number of new home permits.
In 2013, there were 89 new houses constructed — double the amount from 2012.
