COLUMBIA CITY — Janet Hinen, a teacher at Little Turtle Elementary School, has worked with fellow faculty members to organize a special carnival — a fundraiser for cancer research and patient support.
In April of 2013, Hinen was diagnosed with breast cancer. In May, she underwent surgery in addition to chemotherapy treatments.
“This journey has been a ride with a whole lot of bumps,” Hinen said. “It’s been a roller coaster and at times felt like I was going through a dark tunnel.”
But it was the honest and genuine care from her students that kept a smile on Hinen’s face.
