Theron “Gale” Dafforn, 92, of Columbia City passed away at 1 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at the Parkview Oaks, Columbia City.
Gale was born March 25, 1921, and was the son of Clarence “Ted” and Nola (Gross) Dafforn.
Gale spent his childhood in Noble, Whitley and Allen Counties spending his adult years in Columbia City area.
As a young person he was involved with 4-H Clubs. He attended Albion High School.
Gale met and fell in love with Margaret E. Ferrell at the Happy Valley Roller Skating Rink in 1942, and was married on June 19, 1943, in Columbia City by Rev. Arthur Gillespie.
He first worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Nehi Bottling, Weatherhead, W.S. Shamban and he was also a life time farmer. He enjoyed baseball, basketball, fishing, trapping and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret E. Dafforn; son, Richard L. “Dick” (Kaye) Dafforn of Saline, Mich.; daughter, Jane A. (Danny Hubbard) Wolfe of Carmel; grandchildren, Jeremy (Christy) Wolfe of Clearwater, Fla., Lerin (Tony) Jackson of Indianapolis, Andrew (Emily) Dafforn of Scottsboro, Ala. and Neil (Jessica) Dafforn of South Lyon, Mich. and great-grandchildren, Theron Jackson, Abigail and Alexander Dafforn and Kaitlyn and Tyler Wolfe; sisters, Lois Cotterman of Columbia City and Joann Gaff of Wolf Lake. Gale is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harry Dafforn and sister, Mildred Sheets.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Leonard King will be officiating.
The burial will follow in the South Park Annex Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorial bequest may be given in Mr. Dafforn’s memory to the American Heart or Diabetes Associations.
