Richard A. Klopfenstein, 85, of Columbia City, died at 6:27 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Parkview Whitley Hospital where he was admitted Tuesday, March 11, 2014.
He was born Nov. 25, 1928, in Fort Wayne, a son of Lester and Elizabeth (Schneider) Klopfenstein.
As a young boy, his family moved to Thorncreek Township from Leo. He completed his education at Columbia City High School.
On June 24, 1950, he was united in marriage to Ruth J. Geyer.
They made their home in Thorncreek Township until 1954 when they moved into Columbia City.
A meat cutter, he started his employment at Clark’s Grocery, worked many years at Maloley’s and retired in 1990 from Rogers.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and later Calvary Temple.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Judi Dunn and Terri (Jerome) Wait, both of Columbia City; three grandchildren, Nikki Horvath, Adam Simcoe and Taylor Dunn; three great-granddaughters, Ava, Natalie and Gracie Simcoe; and a brother, Donald Klopfenstein of Columbia City.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Valette Wright.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with visitation after 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery.
