COLUMBIA CITY — Proposals were opened at the Whitley County Commissioners meeting Monday for new dispatch equipment.
For several months, personnel from the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department as well as the county’s dispatch have voiced the need for an upgrade to equipment and software.
“What we have is outdated and no longer going to be supported,” said Sheriff Mark Hodges at a recent meeting. “It’s a matter of working effectively and efficiently.”
At Monday’s meeting two envelopes were opened, one from J&K Communications in Columbia City and one from ERS, from Fort Wayne.
Scott Jones, the county’s 911 coordinator, previously told Commissioners that proposals would be hard to come by because of the service needed for ongoing maintenance.
“We have a requirement that the company can be on site within a few hours if we need servicing,” Jones said.
