A series of burglaries occurred in Columbia City over the weekend, according to city police.
The Columbia City Police Department said Monday it had reports of four burglaries or attempted burglaries which occurred between 2 and 5 a.m. Friday morning.
In three of the cases, suspects entered the homes and in all four cases, the occupants of the houses were home at the time of the crime.
“It was a situation where the weather played a factor,” said Capt. Brian Anspach of the city police department.
Anspach said warmer weather played a role in the burglaries as the victims had their windows open for ventilation.
The first report came in at 2 a.m. Friday in the 300 block of North Washington Street.
The other complaints occurred in the Hilltop edition, 100 Block of East Jefferson Street and the 200 block of South Whitley Street.
Cash and electronics were taken from some of the locations, Anspach said.
Anspach said he thinks one of the burglaries was thwarted by the occupants.
“They heard a noise, but didn’t get a look at the suspect,” he said.
Anspach said the department is asking anyone who noticed anything odd in the neighborhoods mentioned or anyone having any information in these burglaries to call the department at 248-5121.
Anspach advised residents to secure their homes and added that they should make sure their valuables can’t be seen through any windows.
