Columbia City Parks Director Mark Green told the Columbia City Board of Works today that there will be no Christmas lights in the park this year.
According to Green, The Whitley County Chamber of Commerce has decided not to have the Wonderland of Lights in 2010.
“I wanted to make it clear this was not a Parks Department decision,” said Green.
Green also announced that the department will be closing its public restrooms next week, with the exception of the bathrooms at the trailhead near the Blue River Trail located near the fire museum.
Green’s report also included announcing that the city’s youth football league had concluded its season.
He touted the coaches and volunteers who were involved during the season.
“We had some great coaches,” he said.
In other business, Electric Superintendent Larry Whetstone explained that some residents have been picking up cardboard boxes located near the poles of new street lights.
He said these boxes contain the new fixtures that city officials are installing throughout the city.
“Some people have seen those boxes and thought they were gifts, took them home and opened them,” Whetstone said. “Luckily, we’ve gotten them all back.”
Whetstone explained that workers are staging the fixtures near their respective poles for installation at the earliest time possible. It is during this transition period the boxes are nabbed.
