COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City Councilman Dan Weigold announced the winners of the 2010 Christmas lighting contest at Tuesday night’s meeting of the city’s Common Council.
Weigold and Water Pollution Control Facility Superintendant Mike Cook were the judges for this year’s competition, driving around the city’s neighborhoods assessing the light displays of countless residents’ homes.
“We get pretty picky,” said Weigold when he announced the winners. “But we try to spread it around.”
The grand winners, George and Rebecca Crump, 351 N. Walnut Street, are no strangers to hanging ornaments and lights for the holidays.
“I used to live across the street from him (George) and lived there about 10 years before I moved and just from what I know, he’s been doing that at least 14 years,” said Cook.
“It looks really nice, they did a really nice job. In fact all the people that participated put a whole lot of time and effort into it.”
Other winners included:
Northwest District — Roger and Rose Tucker, 334 N. Line St.; Southeast District — Paul and Joyce Coulter, 1595 E. Sparrow Cove; Southwest District — James and Martha Kreider, 512 W. Spencer St.
