WARSAW — The preliminary round of the Indiana High School girls’ swimming and diving sectional took place Thursday night at the Warsaw Community Pool.
The Columbia City Lady Eagles qualified participants in every event for Saturday’s finals, led by two individual first-place qualifications by freshman Andrea Richter.
Richter qualified first in both the 50 and 100-meter freestyle races. In the 50- meter race, Richter turned in a time of 25.91 seconds. In the 100, the Columbia City freshman clocked a time of 56.10 seconds to take the top qualifying spot.
Columbia City’s Anneke Van Straten and Holly Kyler also made the slate for the 50 freestyle finals. Kyler also qualified in the 100 with a time of 1:03.04.
In the opening event of the night the Columbia City 200-meter medley relay team of Richter, juniors Jenna Bosselman and Libby Bower, and Kyler qualified in the third spot, posting a time of 2:01.16.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Bosselman, Kyler, Van Straten and Richter also qualified third in 1:51.10
Bosselman added two individual third-place qualifications.
The Columbia City junior turned in a time of 2:26.71 in the 200 individual medley, where sophomore Kristin Hershberger added an eighth-place qualifying time of 2:33.78. Bosselman also brings the third best time in the 100 backstroke (1:14.52) to the finals Saturday.
Hershberger and Van Straten joins Bosselman in the finals with times of 1:16.70 and 1:19.67 respectively.
Junior Libby Bower qualified in both the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke. Bower turned in a time of 1:08.35 to qualify fourth in the butterfly and 1:10.15 to qualify seventh in the backstroke.
Columbia City freshman Katlin Knott also qualified for the 100 butterfly final with a time of 1:18.49.
Juniors Mandi Wright and Anna Lawrence qualified for the finals in the grueling 500 freestyle. Wright qualified ninth and Lawrence 12th.
The two also qualified for the 200 freestyle finals. Wright qualified eighth with a time of 2:15.04 and Lawrence eleventh in a time of 2:19.14.
The Lady Eagles also qualified the 400 freestyle relay team of Bower, freshman Mishayla Hagar, Wright and Van Straten in the fifth spot with a time of 4:14.93.
