COLUMBIA CITY — A domestic disturbance early Tuesday morning escalated into a confrontation with police and culminated in a Columbia City woman landing in jail.
Kelly Jo Schrader, 32, was arrested Tuesday and charged with battery, disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement, strangulation and two counts of battery against an officer causing bodily harm.
She was booked in the Whitley County Jail on $35,000 bond.
According to Columbia City police, a call was made in the early morning hours Tuesday reporting a physical fight at a residence on River Bluff Drive.
Police Chief Mike Petersen said Schrader was intoxicated and was acting violently with an unnamed victim, which included pulling that victim’s hair.
When police intervened, Petersen said, Schrader attempted to shove past officers to return to the victim.
Petersen said the second count of battery against an officer came when Schrader was placed in the police car.
He said she began kicking and that an officer was struck in the process.
While Schrader was booked on the aforementioned charges, formal charges had not been filed by the Whitley County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office by press time.
