COLUMBIA CITY — A third-quarter East Noble spark caused a 43-40 loss for Columbia City’s girls basketball team.
“We beat them in every statistical category except scoring in the third quarter and free throw shooting,” Columbia City Head Coach Amy Shearer said.
Columbia City shot 3-for-12 from the stripe while the Lady Knights were 18-for-28.
Columbia City had as much as a 15-4 lead halfway through the second quarter, until the Lady Knights rallied to more than double their points in less than one minute to make the score 15-10.
Sarah Opliger knocked down a 3-pointer five seconds before the buzzer to close out the half.
The host Lady Eagles had an 18-10 lead at halftime with field goals from eight different scorers.
East Noble’s Jena Yates opened the second half with four 3-pointers in the first four minutes to give the Lady Knights a 22-18 lead.
“We talked about Yates all week in practice and we talked about coming out intense in the third quarter,” Shearer said. “There’s no way that should’ve happened.”
