HUNTERTOWN — In last year’s sectional title game against Wawasee, Columbia City’s boys basketball team fell to a 10-0 deficit in the first quarter but came back to win the title 67-66
The Eagles didn’t have the same luck in Friday’s holiday shoot-out championship game against Homestead.
The Spartans jumped out to a 16-0 lead in the first quarter and Columbia City never recovered, picking up its second loss of the season, 63-45.
“It was disappointing to come out to a team that we knew was going to be good and not put our best foot forward,” Columbia City Head Coach Chris Benedict said.
The Eagles started the game with three consecutive turnovers, followed by two swatted Derek Hinen attempts, taking five possessions away from Columbia City.
“They blitzed us early and it knocked us back on our heels a little,” Benedict said.
