COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County Consolidated Schools Board of School Trustees is gearing up to receive feedback from parents in an effort to monitor or improve safety in schools.
According to Dr. Pat O’Connor, the state requires school districts to create what is known as a Discipline Plan.
The plan is comprised of strategies to follow in terms of safety and discipline.
A requirement of the plan is to survey parents in different aspects of safety and discipline and then use the findings to choose issues to evaluate and address when creating the Discipline Plan. Such a survey can, as O’Connor put it, “help us make decisions, set priorities and identify the desires and wants of parents in our community.”
The survey will initially be sent to parents via e-mail, and the board hopes to set it up in the form of a web-based survey that parents can take, with the results being sent back to WCCS.
