HAMILTON — Churu-busco’s boys basketball squad traveled to Northeast Corner Conference foe Hamilton Thursday night. The Eagles put the Marines away early, holding the hosts scoreless for the first fourteen minutes of play on their way to a dominating 62-25 win.
’Busco forced the Marines into 0-12 shooting from the field in the first quarter. The Eagles only put up nine shots in the period in part due to a slow deliberate pace by the Marines. Churubusco hit three field goals in the first quarter with Josh LeFever connecting with two. The Eagles also went 4-for-4 from the free throw line to jump out to a 10-0 lead at the end of the first period.
Churubusco’s defensive shutout continued until the 2:08 mark of the second quarter. By the time the Marines put in their first points the Eagles had run out to a 23-0 lead.
Austin Goepfrich and Dylan Jones, and LeFever all hit for four points while Tyler Arrowsmith added three and Chris Jones scored two points to help stake the Eagles to a 27-6 lead at halftime.
The ’Busco offensive display continued in the third quarter, with Churubusco hitting 10-of-12 shots from the field and Arrowsmith connecting with eight points and Chris Jones scoring six as Churubusco extended its lead to 47-16 at the end of the third period.
Austin Goepfrich hit the game’s only 3-pointer in the fourth and Arrowsmith added a dunk to help account for the final 62-25 margin.
Goepfrich and Arrowsmith both tallied 13 points and LeFever scored 17 to lead all scorers. Arrowsmith also pulled down 10 rebounds and recorded five blocks for the Eagles.
The win pushes the Eagle record to 11-5 heading into next Friday’s home contest against NECC foe Fairfield.
