COLUMBIA CITY — “Let Me Call You Sweetheart,“ “Little Arrows” and “Unforgettable” were just some of the tunes flowing through The Oaks during it’s annual Valentine’s Day party Tuesday. The social room was packed with nearly all the residents at The Oaks.
They clapped, sang and shouted as Jay Fox entertained with an old-fashioned accordion for nearly an hour and his wife Patrice sang along.
Helen Arter was named Valentine’s Day Queen 2012. The queen received a crown and roses. The first runner-up was Viola Baker. She received a teddy bear.
Jesse Rollins, who was hospitalized, was named king. His runner-up was Kenny Ott, who said he would give Rollins his crown upon Rollins’ return to the nursing home. Ott received a big coffee mug with a teddy bear inside.
“This is the biggest fundraiser we have for our department. We use it for extra entertainment, ice cream on the bus rides in the summer and flowers to decorate different areas in the nursing home,” said Julie Osterman, one of the activity directors at The Oaks.
