PIERCETON — The 2012-2013 school calendar year for Whitko Community School Corporation (WCSC) will change a bit from previous years, according to Superintendent Steve Clason. The first full-day for WCSC students will be Aug. 15 with the last day set for May 23, providing there are no make-up days for weather.
“I think this (2012-2013 school calendar) is one of the better calendars we have had,” school board secretary Roger Boggs said at its Board of School Trustees regular monthly meeting Monday evening.
Clason agreed with Boggs, stating the key element is next year’s school calendar ends prior to the first semester break. “The first semester is over before Christmas break which makes it a lot cleaner for the high school kids,” Clason said.
Graduation for the class of 2013 was also discussed with board vice-president Jorell Tucker talking with a group of Whitley county seniors who are in Leadership Whitley County.
“Two of the seniors brought up graduation planning for area high schools overlapping,” Tucker said. “In planning next year’s (2013) graduation, I would just encourage collaboration whenever we can with surrounding school systems so it is more equal because this year area graduations are on the same day and just one-half hour between one another.”
