COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County Consolidated School Director of Business and Operations Tony Zickgraf gave a report to WCCS board members on the finalized 2012 budget last week. Though the budget was approved by the board itself late in 2011, there is a lengthy proposal and adjustment process it must go through with the state before receiving a final approval; thus, an early 2012 time-frame is not uncommon.
Zickgraf’s report provided all the numbers and focused on the comparison between 2012 and 2011.
Overall, the 2012 budget comes in approximately $3 million less than 2011, with a decrease in tax rate of six cents. The general fund, the districts largest, dropped from $24,279,853 in 2011 to $22,781,402 this year.
“We have had undergone significant drops in the past with things like staffing reductions and budget reductions from our general fund, but we are beginning to stabilize,” said Zickgraf.
