COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County Solid Waste Management Department has, for years, held a one-day event to collect waste and hazardous material from residents. That has changed to a much more frequent service.
“We want to provide a better service and make things more user friendly for the community,” said Director Jorrell Tucker.
The department now accepts materials every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their facility on S. Line St in Columbia City. Residents are asked to bring the materials down and fill out a form. The materials will then be taken directly from a residents’ vehicle and moved into the facility, where it will be separated and categorized
Televisions and monitors can be dropped off at any time free of charge.
Residents may drop off tires at any time as well, at a starting rate of $2 per tire, and products containing Freon, for a cost of $10. The department removes the Freon and disposes of it in proper fashion.
