SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s baseball team scored seven runs in the second inning en route to an 8-2 win over Peru Wednesday evening in South Whitley.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a passed ball by the catcher. The Wildcats’ bats caught fire in the second.
Whitko’s Ryan Weigold and Austin Mort got on base first. Teammate Alex Stoddard grabbed two RBIs with a double, getting the Wildcats on the board and taking the lead.
Stoddard led the team in hitting with a 1.000 average on two at-bats, a run, three RBIs and two stolen bases. Stoddard and teammate Seth Patrick were batted in by Colin Nicodemus.
Then Nicodemus scored off a hit by Avery Robbins. Robbins crossed home plate after a wild pitch by Peru’s Kyle Marburger and Ethan Nicodemus got the last run of the inning off another Tiger error.
Peru only scored one more run, finishing its offensive output in the fourth inning with a run by Dexter Simmons.
Stoddard got his third RBI of the game in the fifth inning.He hit a sacrifice fly ball to send Zach Snep home.
Ethan Nicodemus pitched all seven innings for the Wildcats. He struck out seven players, gave up eight hits and didn’t walk any batters. He had one error, as opposed to six Peru pitching errors.
The Wildcats are now 7-2.
Whitko is back in action Friday, traveling to Lakeland for a 5 p.m. game.
